The discussion in the Boom Beach Forums on the pending update to tweak the offense/defense importance got me thinking. A lot of players there are saying how the leaderboards are screwed up, etc. etc. This prompted the questions for me: a) do you care about the leaderboards?; and b) why do you enjoy playing?
For me, the answers are: a) almost indifferent about the leaderboards. I have enjoyed progressing in the game with my accounts, but so far that has mainly been to improve my play, to upgrade my troops and defenses and to have fun doing that. Before TFs, this was plenty of entertainment for me and I tried to manage my VPs, so I could get loot without getting too many tough to beat bases on the map. Progressing on the leaderboards (locally), was not really on my mind. I played to improve my base.
However, TFs completely changed my enjoyment of the game and my style of play. I was around VP600-650, when they were introduced (and happened to join 600Stunners). After a slow start (everyone but me quit the task force after less than a week - guess it's my personality), TFs have become the main reason I play! I raid to get Intel, I care about defense because it generates Intel (mostly), I am playing waaaay more hours (to chat and to clear my map....you guessed it, for intel) And the absolutely most fun aspect of BB for me is planning and participating in the TFs.
For a long time players would beg SC for a "social element" in BB. This was based on their experience with Clash of Clans, it seemed. I never understood that back then, I am a very casual player of CoC that does not participate in clan wars. But with TFs I have to say they were 100% right! If SC removed TF gameplay (or otherwise ruined it for me), I would stop playing BB.
So...what I would like to say most of all is Thank you guys - for making my BB experience (and leisure time) very enjoyable. And also, I am curious if you feel the same or if the BB leaderboards play a bigger role to you?
TL;DR: I like playing with you guys - please answer Q a) and Q b) bolded above
